CREEPERS GONNA CREEP.

It's been over a week and a half guys and gals. Being a freshman at SCAD, I've been bogged down by work and such, so that's why I've been MIA. Anyways, here's a little update on what I've been working on! Nope no robots, aliens, or bunnies with big guns, only life drawings!!!!! (APPLAUSE)

Thank you, thank you. I'm quite flattered. No really, these drawings that stand before you are the fruits of awkward labor in my Drawing II class - and yes, I really do put an emphasis on "awkward". The top image you see is part of an assignment called "Slumberland" (yes creative title, I know) where we are required to draw sleeping people from REAL LIFE. That's right. I drew this guy while he slept peacefully... without him knowing. WHAT, you think I'm a creeper?? I really didn't have a choice.

On top of that, the bottom two images are part of another assignment where we draw people... while they're awake. Okay, you're probably thinking, "well it's no big deal. Artists draw people from life all the time!". NOT TRUE - well at least for me. It's like being paparazzi but with a super slow and probably inaccurate camera - depending on how difficult the person looks to draw - or how fast he/she moves. It's just awkward. It's like if you draw someone from real life without them knowing, but they suddenly notice what you're trying to do and just look at you funny, it gets really REALLY... weird. You have two choices: Look away and pretend you didn't notice but have them thinking you're a creeper. OR quietly look down and quickly walk away, and pray that the person does not remember your face.

AND that is why in the first page you see only the backs of people. It's easier on my pride you know? The last page you see is when I grew balls of steel. At the time I was like, "you know what, it's time to draw some REAL faces." I sat down only one table away and proceeded to draw the tall skinny dude. As my pencil got down to his arm, he suddenly looked at me with dark menacing eyes,

"YOU DRAWIN' ME?"

I quickly met his eyes and blurted out, "YEAH."

He continued to look at me with that same intense glare, but to my surprise he smiled and said, "LEMME SEE DAT DRAWIN'. AH WANNA SEE WHAT AH LOOK LIKE."

Hmm. Guess it's not that awkward after all. At least at SCAD. In the end, he was pretty pleased with my rendition of him and made it his profile picture. Weird huh?

Other than that, my time at SCAD has been amazing. I feel so blessed to be going to school like this.
Til' next time!

- peace out yo

Farewell...

Super sorry for yet another late post guys! I've been pretty busy doing last minute hang outs with my friends before I finally head out to Georgia in the morning! - Well that's today actually. I can't believe tonight's going to be the last night I spend in L.A. I will truly miss it when I arrive at SCAD Atlanta for the next 10 weeks as a college freshman. Yet, at the same time I can't wait to create new memories and experience new things there!

Anyways, here's a project I've recently finished working for my colleague Alex Lai! Here you see an illustrated soundboard with a Squid/Octopus. I'll just call it a Squidtopus for now... or Octosquid (I know I'm so clever). Well, time to hit the hay!

To all my friends and those who I have not given a formal goodbye, I will truly miss your company. See you all in 10 weeks!

~peace!

New Logo!

So I've never had an official logo... until now! The "B" and the "T" are pretty obvious as to what they stand for, while the Chinese character on the right hand side is the old-school character for my last name, "Tong". I guess you can consider this a sort of tribute to my ancestry. I think I'm gonna fly with these colors for a while now :)

Insomnia.

Hey guys!
Sorry for not posting yesterday since I decided to take a break.

Anyways, back to my life.
Recently I've developed a habit of sleeping at 2 or 3 a.m. and waking up at 6:30 or 7 in the morning for the past week. I cannot say that this is the healthiest of habits, but still, one must make good use of their time while they're awake anyway right? This morning I decided to bike around my neighborhood for a while, which is something I had NEVER done. However, it is also something I never regret to this very moment of typing up this post while cooling down in my own sweat. It was a beautiful day, with blue skies, a rising sun, and a cool breeze that tickled against my face. I thought to myself, "Wow... I've passed by these areas my entire life and yet at this moment I've realized how much I've taken these sights for granted..."

At this point you're probably thinking, "What do these pictures that look like Harrison Cheung have anything to do with Ben's profound life story?"

Well, nothing of course. I just wanted to fill up blank space.

ANYWAYS. This is what I've been working on all of yesterday and a little bit from this morning. I usually don't do favors for people since I'm busy most of the time, but this is one exception. If you aren't in the know already, check out my friend Harrison's photo blog A.K.A. Chubbs photography! Link will be posted below. Thanks for reading another post about my insignificant little life. No really, THANK YOU. Have a great day!

Bionic Bunny

Good day guys and chickadees.

6 more days until I depart for SCAD! I'm pretty excited about the awesome people i'm going to meet there. Until then, I'm just sitting in my room doodling stuff. Today's doodle is Bionic Bunny. Is it a guy or a girl? I'm not so sure. I'll leave that up for you guys to decide! Anyways it has jet boosters for ears and machine guns for arms. Pretty sweet huh??

Old Cities.

So you guys probably think I only draw cutesy stuff huh? Well here I'll shed some light on the extent of my imagination. I present to you some old relics from my high school days in AP.

The top picture was purely experimental and involved tons of technicality. 5 point perspective. It was complicated stuff.

The last two pictures were part of my concentration in the AP. I cannot even recollect how long I've actually spent finishing these. All I remembered was that it was a pain in the butt, but also tons of fun!

I really loved to do cityscapes!

Bunny Bounty Hunter

Felt like drawing bunnies today. Here's another one! Have a great day! :)
